How Does Ketamine Integration Help?

wellness mental health

Cognitive and Emotional Benefits:

  • New Perspectives: Ketamine can help foster positive mood changes and nurture healthy brain connections, influencing a brain chemical called glutamate. This can assist patients in breaking free from “stuck” thinking patterns.

  • Enhanced Mindfulness: The dissociative properties of ketamine may allow individuals to safely explore painful emotions and memories with a sense of detachment, potentially leading to greater therapeutic insights.

Supportive Therapy Environment:

  • Integration of Experiences: While ketamine can begin transformative experiences, the psychotherapy component is crucial for integrating these experiences into one’s life, leading to sustained improvements in mental health.

  • Personalized Care: Explore your own individual path of growth, even as you participate in a group of fellow travelers -- all with the support of experienced professionals.

Safety and Support:

  • Guided Treatment: Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy is conducted under the guidance of trained psychotherapists, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for delving into and addressing mental health challenges.

  • Complementary Approach: As your group does not administer ketamine but provides psychotherapy before and after separate ketamine treatments, it emphasizes the importance of the therapeutic process in the overall treatment plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Ketamine Integration group therapy like?

Group therapy offers a supportive environment where individuals share experiences and learn from each other. It’s facilitated by a psychotherapist who guides the conversation and ensures a safe space for all participants. We also:

  • Help you talk through and make sense of what you’re going through
  • Help you develop your intentions (hopes/dreams/heart desires)
  • Teach you how to take full advantage of your Ketamine Journey
  • Answer your questions
  • Send you a weekly group follow up email to support your ongoing growth

What are the group details?

We offer two times -- Wednesday from 6:00 - 7:15pm, and Fridays from noon - 1:15pm (with more times likely soon!). As we have set times for our group sessions, we recommend joining the group that best fits your schedule. Sessions last 1 hour and 15 minutes, and regular attendance is encouraged to maintain continuity and group cohesion. The sessions are on a secure telehealth platform. Of course, punctuality is important to respect everyone’s time.

What is the role of the psychotherapist and the separate ketamine provider?

We lead the group therapy sessions, focusing on mental and emotional preparation and integration. The separate ketamine provider administers or prescribes the medical treatment in a clinical setting at a different time from our group sessions. Everyone works together to help you make meaningful change.

Where do we meet and what do I need?

The group meets virtually on a secure Zoom video call. For virtual sessions, you’ll need a computer or device with internet access, a camera, and a microphone for participating in Zoom calls. For participants using a smartphone or tablet, we request that participants place it in a stable location as motion may cause discomfort for other clients.

What is ketamine and what are its benefits?

Ketamine is a medication initially developed as an anesthetic, now widely recognized for its rapid-acting antidepressant effects. It’s particularly beneficial for individuals with treatment-resistant depression, offering relief when traditional medications have been ineffective. Beyond depression, ketamine has shown promise in treating symptoms of anxiety, PTSD, and certain addictions, providing rapid symptom relief and aiding in recovery. Administered under professional supervision, ketamine can activate positive changes in brain function, alleviate symptoms, and potentially reduce suicidality. Its safety profile is well-established in a clinical setting, with minimal side effects. The benefits of ketamine, especially when combined with psychotherapy, include the promotion of new neural connections, improved mood, cognition, and overall well-being, making it a valuable tool in comprehensive mental health treatment plans.

How is ketamine administered and how can I find a provider?

Ketamine is administered intravenously, intramuscularly, nasally, or as a lozenge, depending on the clinical setting and treatment plan. If you do not yet have a provider, you can consult with a healthcare professional, search for certified clinics specializing in ketamine therapy, or simply ask us when you fill out our contact form!

What are the costs involved, and is insurance accepted?

The cost is $50 per session. We are out of network with insurances, but are happy to send regular superbills up to once per month for you to be able to seek reimbursement from your insurance company.

What is Ketamine Integration?

Ketamine Integration is the guidance, support, and information which helps you take full advantage of the opportunity that working with Ketamine provides.

Can I work with you individually?

We do offer individual therapy sessions for our clients. Just let us know and we can help you get started.

Is this for everyone?

Some people prefer working with a therapist one-on-one. If that’s you, we’re here!

What do I do in case of an emergency?

If you or someone else is experiencing a medical or psychiatric emergency, do not wait to contact us. Instead, call 911 or your local emergency number immediately. Emergency services are equipped to provide immediate assistance and are the fastest way to ensure safety in critical situations.

Remember, emergencies can include but are not limited to:

  • Severe, life-threatening medical conditions
  • Threats to the safety of yourself or others
  • Any situation where immediate intervention is necessary

Our group therapy sessions are designed to be a safe space for processing and integration, but they are not equipped to handle acute emergencies. Always prioritize your safety and the safety of those around you by seeking immediate professional help in an emergency.
